SALT stands for "Serving And Learning Together."
Each fall high school students, college students, and adults gather for a conference focused on discipleship (learning how to better live out our faith in the world). The conference includes keynotes, workshops, worship, music, and so much more. You won't want to miss SALT 2018!
The theme for this year's SALT Conference is “For Such a Time as This” and our theme verse is Esther 4:14 (NRSV): “For if you keep silence at such a time as this, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another quarter, but you and your father’s family will perish. Who knows? Perhaps you have come to royal dignity for just such a time as this.”
Here are some words from our Keynoter, Andy Morgan, about the theme:
"Throughout our weekend together, our Keynote time will focus on reshaping how we view the world. So often we see the tough parts of our personal lives or tragic stories of our lives as a people through a lens of despair and hopelessness. My hope, as Keynote Speaker, will be to help the SALT participants see their lives and the world with compassion and hope, motivated to make them more as God intended them to be. We will do this by exploring the story of Esther in four sessions that will include an overview of the story, a morning keynote focusing on faithfulness called "the best and worst", an evening keynote focusing on seeing the world through the lens of faith, called "For such a time as this", and a closing sermon focused on finding God's presence in difficult circumstances called "Where's God?"
If you feel called to participate in the SALT Conference this year, you will learn a lot about Esther, a very interesting and funny story in the Bible (as well as learning best practices in studying Scripture on your own) and have a great time doing so. But most of all, with God's help, I hope you will come away from the conference with a new perspective of hope to approach the world and spread the love of Christ. I'm very excited about this conference and I hope to see you there."

Keynote Speaker
Andy Morgan
Andy Morgan has served as pastor to UKirk at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville since 2015. Andy is married to Sarah Morgan, Associate Pastor at Second Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, and has a son named Robert. Andy enjoys video games, memes, and sending Bejeweled requests to YOU on Facebook. Andy hopes that, through a blend of humor and serious study, we will come to a deeper appreciation of the content and call heard and experienced within the story of Esther.
Music Leader
Steven Hall
Steven Hall is a musician, songwriter, frisbee thrower and podcast junkie who lives in Durham, North Carolina. He is a born and raised Presbyterian, and is the Director of Contemporary Arts at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Raleigh. Steven studied Music Performance at the UNC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, and has toured his music through 33 states and several countries. He records and performs under the name Bear Stevens.
Co-Directors
Lynne Clements and Todd Davidson
Lynne Clements is a wife, mother, sports radio listener and ordained teaching elder who lives in Orange, VA with her husband, Lynn (yep, same name!) and youngest daughter Anne. Lynne came to Massanetta every year with her family from 1968 - 1981. She remembers getting in trouble for climbing down the front fire escape of the hotel. She currently serves as Associate Pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville.
Todd Davidson (Co-Director) is a husband, father, ultimate Frisbee player, ordained teaching elder, and dedicated Hokie fan who calls Richmond, VA home. Todd has a long history with Massanetta having been involved in both Middle School and SALT Conferences. He currently serves as the Associate Pastor for Youth, Mission, and Contemporary Worship at Three Chopt Presbyterian Church.

Amantha Barbee
Rev. Amantha L Barbee, the 2018 recipient of the PCUSA Woman of Faith Award, is the pastor
at Statesville Avenue Presbyterian Church (USA). She is gifted in worship arts and seeks to lead harmony and justice within the Church. She believes that music is a resource for healing and uses it to bring people together. You will find her door open, in the halls of the hospitals, at community functions and having conversations with the patrons of Loaves & Fishes.
Elise Cardot
Elise Cardot is currently the Assistant Youth Director at First Presbyterian Church of Richmond, VA, and a private caretaker for a young woman with special needs. She is in Richmond to pursue her masters after graduating in May of 2017 from Davis and Elkins College with a Bachelors in Exercise Science. This is her second year on the SALT Planning Team, and her eighth year attending!
Rachel Erb
Rachel Erb is a mountain-born Virginian reared partly in the Tar Heel state who enjoys singing, Hokie football, statement earrings, reading, quality donuts, and proper grammar. She has a Master of Divinity from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, which she currently uses while leading worship for various small churches in rural Virginia and helping with conferences like this one. The other days of the week find her flexing her interior design muscles while managing a fabric and home interiors store.
