Executive Director

rev. clayton rascoe ▸

Clayton was born in Newport News, VA, but was raised in Apex, NC where he attended the Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church in Cary, NC. It was on ski trips with the Kirk’s youth group that Clayton first came to Massanetta Springs in the 1990’s. Clayton holds a BS degree in Secondary History Education from Appalachian State University and a Masters of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary. Clayton has been ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) since December 2003. Clayton’s calls prior to Massanetta Springs were to serve the Presbytery of Coastal Carolina as their Associate for Outdoor Ministries (2003-2007), Presbyterian Mo-Ranch Assembly as Chaplain Program Director (2007-2013) and Calvin Presbyterian Church of Norfolk, VA as Designated Pastor (2014-2016). Clayton has also been an active member of the Presbyterian Church Camp and Conference Association since 2003, and served on its board from 2013-2015.

Program Director

rev. colleen earp ▸

Originally from New Jersey, Colleen grew up attending Camp Johnsonburg, later serving on summer staff. She first came to Virginia for college, earning a BA Geography from the University of Mary Washington. She went on to complete an MS Geography at Rutgers University. She spent several years teaching environmental geography courses, serving in a variety of youth and camping ministry roles, and volunteering in conservation fieldwork before going to South Louisiana as a Young Adult Volunteer (YAV). She returned to Virginia in 2014, serving on the director team at Camp Hanover and completing a Masters of Divinity at Union Presbyterian Seminary in 2019. Before coming to Massanetta Springs, Colleen completed a yearlong chaplain residency at UVA Medical Center.

Colleen is a member of the Presbyterian Church Camp and Conference Association and the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship Activist Council. She loves the outdoors, and is enjoying getting to know the forests, wildflowers, waterways, and trails of the Shenandoah Valley.

Operations Director

CLARENCE WHITLEY ▸

Clarence was born and raised in Harrisonburg, VA where he graduated from Harrisonburg High School. He attended Hagerstown College in Maryland and was on the basketball team. Clarence moved to Greensboro, NC where he worked at United Child Development Services as a maintenance and substitute bus driver. After moving back home, he worked for R.R. Donnelly as a crew leader and with Paul Davis Restoration where he received his certificate in water damage restoration and floor cleaning. Clarence joined the staff of Massanetta in August 2016. He enjoys spending his free time in the outdoors, walking his dog, watching sports, traveling and working as a sound engineer for local bands.

 

Reservations and Office Manager

Sarah Grace Hall ▸

Sarah Grace is from Little Rock, Arkansas and grew up as a very active youth at Second Presbyterian Church. She went to camp at Ferncliff and attended youth conferences at Mo Ranch and Montreat. After graduating from the University of Arkansas in 2018, she spent a year in Washington D.C. serving as a Young Adult Volunteer through the PC(USA). She spent the next three years earning a Master of Divinity from Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, VA, graduating in May of 2022. She joined Massanetta's staff within a week of graduating. Sarah Grace helps with registrations and with Massanetta's year round programs. She enjoys spending time with her kittens (Jackie Beans and Paintbrush), watching as much TV as possible, and quality time with friends and family.

Dining Services Manager

DAVID CRULL ▸

David has been the Dining Services Manager since 1995. Prior to that he was a manager for the Sodexo Corporation at Sandy Springs Friends School in Maryland and Eastern Mennonite University. David graduated from Eastern Mennonite University with a BA in History Education and is also a licensed Realtor in Virginia. He enjoys reading, traveling, and cruising in his 1972 Ford LTD. David, his wife, Lynette, and daughter, Denae, reside in Harrisonburg, VA.

 
 

Day Camp Manager

CHRISTIAN DEEN ▸

Christian has been involved with the camping environment from a young age having grown up on-site at Camp Ao-Wa-Kiya, in West Michigan. He worked seasonally at several camps around the Midwest leading cabins groups, wilderness trips, intern and staff teams, and facilitating high adventure groups. He also spent time in Kenya and India through the organization Youth With A Mission before graduating from Spring Arbor University with a Bachelor's degree in Camping Ministry and Recreation and Leisure Management minor.

Christian moved to Virginia in summer 2018. He loves recharging with a cup of coffee and a good book, a woodworking or drawing project, and can usually be found playing (hiking, camping, kayaking, rock climbing) outside with his dog, Bentley.
