Ignite! For Girls Theme Highlight
One of our favorite weeks from this past summer was Ignite, our special week just for girls. Throughout the week, our 13 campers were challenged by camp activities such as archery, challenge course initiatives, canoeing, and group games.
One of the most memorable activities was Cracker Factor, a trivia game where whomever missed a question could redeem points for their team by eating a cracker with a wacky condiment combination (ex: ketchup/cheese wiz, jelly/sriracha sauce, etc). By the end, everyone was trying and sharing the best (worst?) combinations they could think of!
These activities were paired with a custom made Bible Study curriculum focused around inspirational female Bible characters. This included lessons such as the importance of work and rest from Mary & Martha, standing up for others from Esther, and sharing your story from Mary.
Campers were also paired up as "sisters" for the week to talk about what they were learning, to support, and to empower each other. One exercise encouraged them to tell each camper that they were loved and supported by them, which they did with a lot of enthusiasm! The girls grew close and ended the week by making gifts for their sisters to take home with them.
So, we're excited to let you know that this will be happening again! Ignite! For Girls will be the theme for July 13-17 during the 2020 season.
We've chosen to offer this special week once again...
...to honor Dr. Lee Morrison, whose gift continues to make Day Camp possible.
... because of the campers we had so much fun with and learned so much from last year.
.... and because of our staff's belief that our female campers deserve the chance to build meaningful and supportive relationships in a safe place that allows and encourages them to grow and challenge themselves.
