A Massanetta Story: Never Looked Back
Growing up in Norfolk, Virginia, Dennis Griffin was one of five siblings in a family that did not attend church. A Presbyterian pastor, who was a frequent visitor to his home, took time to answer Dennis’ questions about life…and faith…and God. Eventually, he began attending that pastor’s church. There he found a nurturing family. He became active in the youth group, and went on to become a youth leader - he had found a calling. Dennis loved working with youth. Through that calling to youth ministry he met another person with a heart for service, Amy, a “cradle Presbyterian,” and after six years they were married and started a family.
When their two boys were very young, a dear friend from Amy’s home church gave them a gift that brought them to Massanetta Springs Bible and Church Music Conference for the first time. They have never looked back. Their boys found lifelong friends and learned to be Christian leaders. “As the old saying goes - "it takes a village",” commented Amy, “and we like to add that it takes a place like Massanetta. Our boys are who they are due to the influence of places like Massanetta in their lives.”
The impact of Massanetta’s ministry is as deep for Dennis and Amy’s lives as it is for their adult children. “I am a better husband, father, friend, and man because of the relationship I have built with this place.” remarked Dennis. “I am more open to the needs of others and even more understanding of my role as an advocate for others. I know for a fact our lives would not have turned out the way they have if it wasn’t for Massanetta.” Dennis and Amy often spend their vacations volunteering at Massanetta, often for weeks at a time. They are the embodiment of Massanetta’s spirit of hospitality and acceptance of all people.
For their family, Massanetta has been a gift like no other. Gifts made to Massanetta allow this ministry to be a gift to so many others. Thank you.
