The theme activities described here are paired with other regular Camp Activities for a week of summer fun.

Summer 2023

Splashing at the Springs

Virginia summers are hot but at Massanetta Springs we love the water! Theme activities during this week will be all about water which may include swimming in the pool, paddling around Lake Campbell, zooming down the slip and slide, dipping our toes in the Spring, or maybe even getting sprayed with hoses!

Campers Rule

Our campers are awesome and we love to give them choices! During this theme campers have the opportunity to sign up for their choice of camp activity. They can try Canoeing, Archery, Team Games, Campfire Cooking, and Crafts, or just build the world's most incredible paper mache sculpture ever in Crafts all week!

Ignite

A Netta Day Camp tradition, Ignite is the week we set aside for our girl campers in memory of Dr. Lee Morrison, who made this program possible! During this theme we focus on fun, connection, and building confidence through fun activities!

Girls of all backgrounds are welcome.  Male staff are present through out this week.

Camp Chronicles

From the big ones that others tell us, to the ones told in the car on your way home from camp, Camp Chronicles is all about stories! We'll look at some of those big, important stories that help us understand the world and even make up some of our own.

NDC GOES to cmc

This special week partners with Massanetta Springs' historic Church Music Conference where campers and conference attendees are led in music activities by special workshop leaders. Workshops during previous years have included drums, handbells, movement, choir, and orff instruments. This week includes some opportunities for campers to showcase what they've learned, typically on Wednesday evening and Friday afternoon.

Summer 2022

Campers Rule

What's better than going to camp? Picking what you do while you're there!

Campers can try every camp activity we offer or the same one the whole time! They'll spend time doing the activities they're interested in practicing or learning more about, and can even earn a prize along the way.

What Instructions?

Creativity and the act of creating are important parts of being a kid!

During this "instruction-less" theme we focused on encouraging campers to explore their own imagination and build their own unique creations in craft time or during pottery and pretzel making activities .

The curriculum for this theme was called:

Green Camp

Netta Day Camp & Massanetta Springs are an oasis of green just minutes outside Harrisonburg.

This theme will focus on the world around us as we continue to learn how to care for and play in our natural environment.

Ignite! For GIrls

A gift from the estate of Dr. Lee Morrison has made Netta Day Camp possible. To honor her gift and legacy, Massanetta Springs has devoted one week of day camp to one of the strongest passions of Dr. Morrison’s life: The empowerment of girls.

This week, girls got to hear about inspiring women, try out the zip line, learn construction skills, and participate in other camp activities. With a focus on empowerment, Ignite! was a week of girls being brave and trying new things.

This week’s curriculum, “Who is my Neighbor”, focused on how we should care for all people as children of God.

Ignite week is an inclusive environment that welcomes girls from all backgrounds.

NDC Goes to CMC

More than our normal camp songs, this program was filled with music workshops. The first week had opportunities for campers to sing and play ukuleles, guitars, and orff instruments. Workshops the second week included drumming and choir. Each week ended with videoed performances for camper families to enjoy!

The Bible study for this program was adapted from This is our Prayer which focused on how ways we can pray and connect with God.

A ‘Netta Mystery

What is in the mystery trunk? Our campers found out!

Throughout the week, campers solved puzzles, cracked codes in the mystery room, and complete a scavenger hunt, all in search of keys to the trunk. At the end of the week, their hard work paid off and they opened the trunk to reveal a surprise inside!

The curriculum for this week, “God Who?” focused on the mysteries of God’s character and what we can discover through our faith.

great Expedition

We’re off on an adventure!  Campers got to explore parts of the world without ever leaving camp! Using our imaginations, campers had activities each day to take them from Mt. Everest to the depths of the ocean and from the deserts to the rain forests. These adventures included relay races, team build games, and water activities.

During Bible studies, campers learned about how to care for the earth and creation with lessons from the Handle with Care curriculum.

Summer 2019

NettAdventure

Our very first, adventure focused week let campers experience every part of Massanetta Springs. Activities ranged from classics like archery & canoeing, to exploring the zipline & wooded trails around Camp.

The Bible Study curriculum for this theme, Nettadventures with Jesus, invited campers to imagine how what it would be like to live through one of Jesus’ stories from the Bible.

Make a splash

This Day Camp theme was all about water! Campers were able to experience our super-famous slip-n-slide, dip their toes in the frigid springs, canoe, and swim throughout the week.

Our curriculum for this theme was also Make a Splash, where each day was described with different Splashes (A Splash of Life, Splash of Creation, etc.) and included some of the many places where water is mentioned in the Bible.

Ignite! for girls

A gift from the estate of Dr. Lee Morrison has made Netta Day Camp possible. To honor her gift and legacy, Massanetta Springs has devoted one week of day camp to one of the strongest passions of Dr. Morrison’s life: The empowerment of girls.

The very first week of Ignite! included a lot of new camp favorites. Some recurring features include Cracker Factor (a trivia and dare-you-to-eat-it combo), ziplining, and a visiting leader of the week!

This Ignite Curriculum paired each of the girls together as “sisters” who took time to talk about highs and lows of the day and work together to complete small projects and challenges.

Ignite week is an inclusive environment that welcomes girls from all backgrounds.

Sing, Ring, & Play

This final week of Summer 2019 partnered with Massanetta’s Church Music Conference (CMC) and included workshops for Orff instruments, bells, and choir. Campers practiced for an end of the week performance for their families and the rest of the conference.

The curriculum used during this week was based on the Conference theme: “Together We serve”
